‘People’s Choice’ winners announced for Battle of the CowlArtz

Gallery 505 and the Morgan Arts Centre are pleased to announce the winners of the People’s Choice Award for the 2014 Battle of the CowlArtz.

An annual celebration of artistic talent by local high school students, Battle of the CowlArtz features a wide range of art projects by students from Winlock and Toledo High Schools in a number of different media.

During the exhibition, which took place last month, guests were able to vote on the pieces they felt stood out the best. In the category of Best Drawing, Taylor Leback won for "Cookie?" In the category of Best Painting, Jessica Kelly won for "Violin Symphony." In the category of Best Three-Dimensional Piece, Gage Madill won for "Large Mouth." In the category of Best Wood Project, Anthony Wade won for “Table.”

These winners join those previously selected by a panel of judges, including Kalyssta Drentwelt, who won Best Pencil Drawing: People, Leback, who also won Best Pencil Drawing: Animals, Davinagrace Ramon, who won Best Pencil Drawing: General, Brooke Mikel, who won Best Black & White Drawing, Drentwelt, who also won Best Colored Pencil Drawing, Sally Martin, who won Best Painting: Landscape, Senorina Torrence, who won Best Painting: People or Animal, Kelly, who also won Best Painting: General, Kiana Wells, who won Best Mixed Media, Keeshia Baldwin, who won Best Ceramics: Pottery, Madill, who also won Best Ceramic: Sculpture, and Wade, who also won Best Wood Project.

Special thanks were offered to Judges Jennifer Brendicke, from Tacoma, and Jeanne Hamilton and Becky Gallinger, from ARTrails; to Tim Goodwin, for his guitar playing on Opening Night; and to Winlock art teacher Sharon Madsen and Toledo art teacher Ron Gaul for the many extra hours given for the 8th annual Battle of the CowlArtz.
