While in the main the inevitable accidents have not been serious ones, a few of the merry makers have had narrow escapes. Last Saturday evening Harold Slater was dumped from a sled while coasting on the Duryea Street hill, between 11th and ninth streets and suffered a rather severe cut on his head, while the muscles of one leg were torn. He was able to be out on crutches on the first of the week, however.

Christmas Eve Masquerade Ball

Window cards are out announcing a grand masque ball to be given at West Union Grange Hall on Thursday evening, December 24. Suitable prizes will be given for best costume and for the best sustained character. The music will be furnished by Porter's Orchestra, and excellent floor management is promised. The ladies of the Grange will furnish the supper, will be $1.50.

Shooting Match at Willapa

A shooting match will be held at Willapa Sunday under the management of the Shay bros. Turkeys, geese, duck and chicken will be the prizes shot for, and rifles and shotguns will be used. Shooting begins at noon.

South Bend church heavily damaged in fire Tuesday

The Full Gospel Tabernacle at Cedar and Cowlitz Streets in South Bend was heavily damaged Tuesday night when it was hit by a fire of undetermined origin. The blaze apparently been going for some time before the flames were spotted by a neighbor, and reported at 6pm. Fire Chief Herb Newton said that 17 men and two trucks fought the blaze for three hours before it was subdued. Though the living quarters in the church were saved, the steeple and roof were caved in, and the entrance level a total loss.

Santa parade in South Bend on Saturday

Santa Claus, who has paraded the past two Saturdays in Raymond, will transfer to South Bend this Saturday. He will arrive aboard the cruiser Maxine, and will sail aboard her up the river to Raymond. On the return trip the vessel will pace a land parade. High school bands from Naselle Valley and South Bend will turn out to welcome the good saint.

The community chapel in South Bend is having a Christmas program tonight at 7 pm. There will be recitations and singing, including a performance by a 25 voice choir. The public is invited. The chapel will also have regular Sunday morning services on December 24, followed by special evening communion services at 6pm.

The Willapa, Bay Center and South Bend United Methodist churches will have their regular Sunday morning services on Christmas Eve. There will also be candlelight services with caroling that evening at 7 pm in South Bend and 11pm in Willapa.
