Character Counts starts at SBHS
Last Tuesday (Feb. 12) the ninth grade students were introduced to the Character Counts program starting up at South Bend. In brief, the program uses positive reinforcement and a rewards system to influence individual behavior and improve school culture.
In any of their classes, ninth grade students can be acknowledged by a teacher or staff member for expressing specific character qualities and will receive an initialed business card that they can redeem weekly at lunch on Thursdays at a "store" managed by our AmeriCorps volunteer Ms. Reisbeck. The cards they cash in allow them to "buy" things at the store and then will be placed in both a raffle drawing for a prize at mid-semester as well as go towards qualifying them for an end of the year barbecue celebration.
The teachers and staff members at South Bend would like to thank Dairy Queen, Pepsi, and Dennis Company for their generous donations to get this program started. If any additional stores or businesses would like to donate to this program to keep it going and get acknowledged through advertisement, contact Kassi Reisbeck by email at kreisbeck@southbendschools.org or by phone at 875-5707.
