A proposal to extend the hours of the Castle Rock Library was approved during the May 28 Castle Rock City Council meeting.
Presented by Librarian Vicki Selander and supported by members of the Friends of the Castle Rock Library, the proposal asked for library hours to be extended from 20 to 25 hours per week and for an extra employee at 15 hours per month. Selander said an assistant would allow her extra help at the library as well as the possibility of taking sick days if needed.
In light of a failed tax levy, the Friends have been largely supporting the library through fundraisers since last year. Upon approval of the proposal, Selander voiced her appreciation, as did the Friends.
Mayor Paul Helenberg decreed Annual Day of Kindness in Castle Rock on the first Saturday in June, in support of a promotion by Kelso barber Bill Ammons who has made it a personal tradition for years. Kelso, Longview and Cowlitz County have already adopted the proclamation.
Public Works Director Dave Vorse announced winning two Association of Washington Cities grants to replace 10 stop signs, plus 25 sign faces with High Intensity Prismatic Surface signs, and for cameras at the Lions Club Memorial Park.
The next City Council meeting will be held June 10 at 7:30 p.m. For special accommodations to participate in the meeting, contact Ryana Covington at (360) 274-8181 by 9 a.m. three days prior to the meeting.
