A group of second graders from Winlock Miller Elementary School are led through a "smoke house" on Thursday with assistance from Lt. Patrick Jacobson (holding door), of Lewis County Fire District 15, as part of the district's annual focus on Fire Prevention Week. Students were instructed on how to safely test a door to see if it is hot before entering, as well as how to crawl through a smoke-filled room to safety. Captain Kevin Anderson, who was by an outside window ushering students out of the facility, said District 15 was able to borrow the smoke house, which featured mild vapors in place of actual smoke, from the Riverside Fire Authority, who is able to regularly loan it out to nearby districts for such demonstrations.
