To the Editor;
I would like to invite all cancer survivors to participate in the survivor lap at the 15th annual Relay For Life of Willapa Bay on Saturday, July 18 at the Raymond High School track beginning at 12 noon.
Relay For Life begins with a cancer survivors lap and a reception to celebrate life. Anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer, whether currently undergoing treatment or in remission for 50 (or more) years, is invited to participate. The involvement of local cancer survivors is proof of the progress that has been made in improving cancer survival rates and the quality of life following cancer treatment. Relay allows communities to celebrate the lives of those who have survived their personal battle with cancer.
For the newly diagnosed, Relay offers an opportunity to meet someone who has survived the same type of cancer. For the cancer patient in treatment, Relay provides an opportunity to share with others. For the long-term survivor, Relay brings a communities' recognition of the struggle and closure to a trying time in their life. Seeing the number of local cancer survivors walking is so inspirational - it shows that we can win the battle against cancer. Survivors can pre-register online at www.willapabayrelay.org or stop by the RHS track between 10:30 a.m. and Noon on July 18 to register and pick up their t-shirt. I encourage everyone to come out to Relay to cheer on cancer survivors during the opening ceremony. Let's finish the fight!
