LaPriel was born August 20, 1927 in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Maylan and Edna Lakey. As soon as she was old enough, she worked next to the men delivering sheep, milking cows by hand and working in the fields. She also helped her mom cook for all the ranch hands and family during harvest time on the family ranch at Eight Mile. She often talked about how brutal the winters were and how hard everyone had to work.
When she turned 16, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend Quish Beauty School. A friend introduced LaPriel to the love of her life, Harry Dee Jones, who was serving in the Navy at the time, and the two were married in Logan, Utah, on August 18, 1945.
After Harry was discharged, they moved to Des Moines, Iowa. LaPriel gave birth to their son Larry on June 21, 1946.
Harry was recalled to the Navy in 1950 as a result of the Korean War. LaPriel and Larry moved to Joseph, Oregon, to be close to family while he was away, where LaPriel worked for Holman Drug Enterprise. After Harry was discharged for the second time, the family moved back to Des Moines.
In 1954, they moved back to Joseph, where they established a home, and on January 13, 1954, daughter Dee Ann Jones was born. LaPriel and Harry opened Jones Repair Service in 1964, where LaPriel took care of the books and managed the stock for the business.
LaPriel always kept an impeccable home and could cook like no other, always putting her family first. The family moved to Raymond, Wash., in 1977. LaPriel managed the Raymond Elks #1292 from 1980 to 1983 and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #150. LaPriel and Harry revived Jones Repair Service in 1981 and ran the business together until Harry’s retirement in 2011.
Her beloved Harry passed away on September 12, 2011, and not a day went by that she didn’t mourn his passing.
LaPriel is survived by her brother, Marlin Lakey of Twin Falls, Idaho; sister, Nancy (Bob) Doty of Pasco, Wash.; son, Larry, and his wife, Shirley, of Florence, Ariz.; daughter, Dee Ann Roberts, and her husband, Mike, of Raymond; grandchildren Chad Jones of Chicago, and Breanne Jones of Raymond; and dear friend and confidant Ann Hornby of Raymond.
