Lost hunter located cold and wet on Long Island

The hunter advised the communications center that he was lost and was unable to locate his boat. The caller also advised that he was cold and wet. The hunter had been participating in a late season archery hunt.

A deputy with the Pacific County Sheriff's Office responded to the National Wildlife Refuge boat launch and met with a federal wildlife officer from the refuge. The United States Coast Guard was also contacted and a helicopter was requested to assist with the search of the hunter.

The deputy and officer responded to the island via an airboat and began searching for the hunter. The hunter built a fire for the USCG helicopter to see. The helicopter crew guided the deputy and officer to the hunter after a few hours. The deputy and officer assisted the hunter with packing his belongings out of the heavily wooded area.
