Citizens in need of sandbags should come to the public works shop located behind the Hoquiam City Hall.

A few openings are still available in Grays Harbor College's new program, Commercial Food Prep, which begins in January at the start of Winter Quarter. Instructors will be Candi Bachtell, and her son, Josh Bachtell. The winter quarter courses will meet during evening hours Mondays through Fridays in the Culinary Arts area of Aberdeen High School.

Applications are now being accepted for the Habitat home to be built at 1606 Coolidge Road in Aberdeen. Pick up an application packet at the Habitat for Humanity Store, 3005 Simpson Avenue in Hoquiam on Tuesday, Friday 9am-5pm or Saturday 9am-3pm. The U.S. Coast Guard has closed down all of it's ports in the Pacific Northwest as of December 11, due to debris from flooding and turbulent waters.

December 18 is the deadline to apply for 2016 Urban and Community Forestry Grants with the Department of Natural Resources.

There will be a CLA Estate Planning Workshop held at the Elks Lodge on Boone Street in Aberdeen on Wednesday, December 16 starting at 9:30am. It will be a free workshop providing valuable information for seniors on securing one's estate and retirement planning. You will receive a workbook and gain useful information you can act upon immediately regarding: the pros and cons of wills and trusts, long term health care concerns, tax reduction planning. Doktor Kaboom's Science of Santa will be held at the Bishop Center for Performing Arts on December 19, starting at 2pm. In this brand new holiday show, Doktor Kaboom works from the assumption that science and magic are the same thing, and declares Mr. Claus the world's greatest scientist.

The Dance Club of Grays Harbor's monthly dance is set for Saturday, December 19 at the Masonic Hall in Hoquiam. Free foxtrot lessons start at 7pm, and go till 8pm. The dance will be from 8pm to 10pm and is $9 for members or $12 for guests.
