We just had the first day of Fall the other day and I heard that this year is the hottest on record. But I'm happy to say that I've been able to keep my house cool enough (that's the operative word...) without figuring how to install the nice portable air conditioner I got used. (This is the kind where the entire unit is indoors and vents out the window and my windows are 5' high sliders.) I decided that since I hadn't needed it, I might as well sell it to someone who did.
It was good to see so many people come by Pioneer Hall for the Firewise Expo on Sunday. The Firewise program is a collaboration of local, state and federal agencies to reduce the chances of wildfire in rural communities like ours. Ryderwood has been an official Firewise Community since 2010 and is the only retirement community in the State so designated.
This year's Firewise Clean Up is scheduled for October 25th. Because of the year-round efforts of the town's incredible crew of volunteers, there will be much less debris and flammable materials to be disposed of this go around. You can find an article about Ryderwood's participation at firewise.org. Thanks to the support of our Fire District and the Town for the success of this program.
