The South Bend School District's Indian Education Program took 23 students in grades 1-12 on a cultural field trip on Oct. 27, 2015. The field trip was narrated by Chinook Nation tribal members Gary and Tony Johnson. The students visited historical landmarks of the Chinook people in Bay Center, Willapa Bay and along the Lower Columbia River. The group also visited the Ilwaco Heritage Museum and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. On the way back the group made one last stop at an old growth cedar forest. Everyone involved had a great time and learned a few things about local native culture, too. Indian Education Director Manuel Rangel is in the process of planning more trips for this year.
