The Washington State Patrol reports the engine entered Southbound U.S. Route 101 at the onramp from Evergreen Parkway and cut across all lanes trying to get to the scene of a prior collision in the median. Five Olympia men in the fire engine were uninjured.
The fire engine was driven from the scene, the van totaled. Trooper Krantz said the cause, and any charges stemming from the accident are under investigation.
