Toledo Head Coach J.B. Ewers had a look of relief on his face after the Toledo girls defeated Naselle 68-38 in a non-league contest at the Ilwaco Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29.
Emily Barge led scoring with 13 points, while Casee Rice added 12 more. Josie Bowen also broke into double figures with 11 points.
"It was nice to get all of the kids onto the floor," said a very relaxed coach who didn't look like a man on the road with a basketball team.
In all, ten of the Lady Indians got into the scoring column.
The next night was not all that friendly to Toledo. The Lady Fishermen of Ilwaco have a quick, aggressive basketball team that will compete very well against the best teams the southwest Washington District IV has to offer. Ilwaco clocked the Lady Indians 72-31.
Chaselin Rice led Toledo with 11 points.
The Toledo girls are 2-4 in league play and 3-5 on the season thus far.
The Castle Rock girls were also treated rudely by the home team at the Ilwaco Holiday Tournament. They Lady Fishermen outscored CR by a total of 54-13, but on night two of the tournament, the Lady Rockets outlasted Naselle, 30-26.
Auna Dolan led the Rockets with 9 points while Emilee Janish added 8.
The victory brought Castle Rock to an overall record of 3-6 and a league mark of 1-3.
