Toledo Cruises thoughh District Tournament First Rounds
The Toledo boys basketball team opened up the District 1A Tournament with near perfection in a 58-35 defeat of Forks on Thursday night.
Toledo's Brennan Rakoz calmly led the team in scoring with 18 points doing the things that he does best, which includes rebounding and put-backs. On another front, defensive specialist Grant McEwen had a great night, which includes steals and transition baskets. McEwen finished the game with 15 points. Austin Trafelet also broke into double figures with 10 points.
"We had a great defensive game and our shots weren't falling so we knew we had to crash the boards," said McEwen.
On Saturday night, the Indian boys took down Woodland 58-50 in their third meeting of the season. Toledo beat Woodland 74-57 and 74-38 in the regular season. This time however, it took a monster night from Trafelet, who threw in 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the boys in black. Brennan Rakoz was a major contributor with 13 rebounds despite not making double figures in scoring.
"I felt like we weren't playing like the team we've been all this year," said senior Joe Durham. "Austin is a great player, we can always count on to get a bucket when we need it. He did just that against Woodland."
"We didn't have a great night," said senior Blake Wood. “We really struggled through that and Woodland played us much better by sagging off to help defend Brennan (Rakoz)."
Toledo is now 21-1 on the season and will play Kalama for the District IV Championship at 8 p.m. on Friday at W.F. West High School.
