Facing each other for the first round of playoffs, the Toledo Indians and Rainer Mountaineers competed against each other for the advancement onto the 2B bracket State Playoffs. After warm ups, the Mountaineers and Indians greeted each other at the center of the 50 yard line. At this time, the coin was flipped for which team would be receiving the opening kickoff. The result of the coin toss was for the Toledo Indians to receive the kickoff.
Before the game had even started, the odds fell into the favor of the Indians, and now as the game began, the favor only grew. At 10:15, Toledo made the first touchdown of the night. Following the touchdown, the field goal was also successful. Fifteen seconds later, Toledo got possession after an onside kick and ran a fifty yard touchdown. Again, the kick was successful. As the game continued, Toledo continued to run up the score against Rainer. Following a few more touchdowns from the Indians, at 3:06 the Mountaineers scored their first touchdown of the night. They attempted a field goal, but were unsuccessful in this attempt. At nine seconds left to the first quarter, Rainer lost control of the ball with a fumble. Counting the score and having a successful field goal kick, the quarter ended with a score of 41 to six with Toledo in the lead.
The first part of the second quarter stayed fairly uneventful for both teams until at 6:29 when Toledo scored the first touchdown of the quarter. This small bit of action boosted the score to 48 to six before going into the halftime.
With no events or routine from either teams cheer squad, the 15 minute half came to a close for the start of a new quarter. Starting the third quarter, Toledo was set to kick off. At 4:14, the Mountaineers made a touchdown. Instead of attempting a kick, Rainer tried a two point conversion but were quickly stopped by the Toledo Indians. For the final quarter of the game Rainer started strong with a touchdown and a two point conversion. All was going well for the teams until 8:31 when a Rainer player was injured. With no ambulance or responding medical unit at the game the teams waited in distress for a response team. After what felt like an eternity to the worried fans and player an ambulance arrived to take the young player off the field to get medical attention. Following this emotional and stressful injury
Rainer returned to the field with motivation for their injured player. At 4:23, the Mountaineers scored a touchdown with a failed two point conversion attempt. As the quarter began to draw to a close Rainer scored one last final touchdown as well as the final two point conversion of the night. The concluding score for the night was a wonderful victory for the Toledo Indians with 55 to 34.
