The Winolequa Garden Club has chosen Coleson Richendollar as their recipient for this year's $3000 scholarship award. Coleson is a 2020 graduate of Winlock High School.
Coleson, who plans to attend Centralia College in the fall, will be majoring in Natural Resource Science with a back up plan of Electrical Engineering. When he found out he was awarded the scholarship, Coleson stated "I thanked them a lot, I think it's awesome." When asked if other students should apply for the scholarship, he stated "Definitely look into it, take the time to complete it to the best of your ability. They have quite a lot to offer with this scholarship."
Coleson has enjoyed growing up in Winlock, "Small town living is great. Everyone knows everyone, if anyone needs help, there are a lot of people who are quick to help and everything." He has also enjoyed being in a smaller school "Not a lot of kids go to Winlock so you have more time with the teacher. And when you ask a question in class, there are not a lot of kids who are focused on you," he continued.
Coleson has also been active in the community as well, he stated "I am the FFA Secretary, I'm involved in the Halloween Safety Skit, Canned Food Drive, Grandparent's Day and many more activities." He is also involved in sports where he has lettered in Football, Basketball, Track and Baseball. He has won various awards, including 1st Team All League Wide Receiver and in basketball he was 2nd Team All League. He is definitely a well rounded young man.
One of the requirements for the scholarship is to write an essay. In this essay Coleson gives credit to his mom, Kim Richendollar, for working hard to provide a better life for her sons. Congratulations, Coleson! We look forward to many great things from you.
