District 2 holding first aid class

Lewis County Fire District 2, based in Toledo, has scheduled their next first aid/CPR course for Feb. 21 and registration for the event is available now.

Class size is limited, so be sure you register soon, and keep in mind only those who sign up beforehand will be able to take the class. For more information, contact District 2's main office at (360) 864-2366.

Fundraiser this Saturday for firefighter in ICU

Local residents are encouraged to take part in a spaghetti feed and silent auction this Saturday to benefit Jeff Fosburg, a local firefighter/EMT battling a severe lung infection.

Fosburg has been in the ICU since Dec. 9 with a case of bacterial pneumonia caused by MRSA and, though he is expected to recover, remains in a medically-induced coma.

A fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday at Lewis County Fire District 8 headquarters, in Salkum, where residents will be able to bid on donated items as well as order plates of spaghetti. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bidding closes at 8 p.m.

Donations of auction items may be dropped off at the station until Thursday. For more information, call (360) 985-2345, or visit the fire station at 2490 US Hwy 12, in Salkum.

Beekeeping class begins this month

The Lewis County Beekeepers' Association (LCBA) is accepting registrations for a series of beekeeping classes to begin Feb. 28 at Centralia College.

The program is geared toward beginners and will cover such topics as basic bee biology, equipment and apiary setup, seasonal management processes, identifying and managing pests and diseases, honey harvesting, and over-wintering bees. Those who pass will earn the Washington State Beekeepers' Association's Apprentice certificate and are eligible to proceed to their Journeyman & Master Beekeeper courses.
