Friday is the deadline to apply for the Lewis County Sheriff's Office's Shop with a Cop program, open to area kids in 2nd to 12th grades.
Intended for families in financial need, the program is available to one child per family, though applications for multiple children in the same family may be submitted, and those who participated last year must wait until next year to apply again. The deadline to apply is Nov. 28 by 4 p.m., and families selected for the program will be notified by Dec. 5.
A committee will be approving applications based on the number of deputies available to participate. It will be the goal of the committee to select applicants based on financial needs as well as those who may have previously had poor encounters with law enforcement.
The event itself is scheduled to take place Dec. 18 at Wal Mart and will be followed by a pizza party with games and giftwrapping at the Law and Justice Center in Chehalis.
Applications can be found online at www.lewiscountyuw.com and can be mailed to Shop with a Cop, 450 NW Pacific Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532; faxed to 360-748-8222; or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Those with questions may also call (360) 748-8100.
