On this Memorial Day when we honor those men and women who have given their lives for our freedom, it’s very difficult to watch our president who is sworn to protect our country and Constitution, to in fact be the leader in a deception and allowing his administration to go after political groups who have a different view than his own.
Under his watch, our Bill of Rights has and is continuing to be trashed. Remember our President in his state of the union address in 2010, chastised the Supreme Court for allowing the Non-Profit 501 c 4 groups to have tax exemption status. He has had help from the some of the Congress leaders who made numerous requests for the IRS to investigate the “tea party” groups. Then we were all treated to the spectacle of Ms Lois Lerner, who was in charge of the IRS section that granted 501 c 4 statuses, make a statement of I have done nothing wrong, then refused to answer any questions.
Each taxpayer as contact with the IRS, we expect that group to be above any political partisanship, yet the hearings now being held by Congress has demonstrated they are political hacks of the President and Congress.
There is also the continuing story of how the President failed to protect our embassy in Benghazi, where four Americans were killed. Recently the attorney general signed a wiretap authorization to investigate a FOX News reporter, and other AP reporters, for his political interests.
However, this political activism of government agencies going after selected persons or groups who disagree or have questions about their governance is not limited to the federal government.
Locally we have the mayor of South Bend limiting public speech, by requiring persons to sign-up and state what they want to talk about, if he doesn’t agree, you don’t get to speak. Then, our own PUD #2 Commissioners who will not enforce the Freedom of Information laws of the Washington. Try getting an honest and complete answer from the PUD #2. The PUD #2 Commissioners were not even saying the Pledge of Allegiance until asked to by the public. Now, they ask if anyone in attendance wants to say the pledge. They just don’t get it, we expect them to say the pledge, and they need to show allegiance to this country, not themselves.
Too many of our elected officials are not honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, this is disgraceful behavior. Where are honor, integrity, and accountability that made this country great?
God Bless our men and women serving our country; they deserve better leadership.
South Bend, Wash.
