The Hoquiam Police Department made an arrest over the January 16-17 weekend, after a man had allegedly failed to report to county custody while on a medical furlough. Records indicate that the 55 year old man was in custody waiting for court on a felony assault charge for violating a no contact order.
The man had a medical episode while he was in jail, and required transportation to the community hospital in Aberdeen. He was released from police custody due to his apparent medical condition, and the man was to turn himself in once cleared from the hospital. He instead walked away from the hospital on Saturday and was arrested about eleven hours later in Hoquiam, at around 4am on Sunday, January 16.
The man was found at the home of where he was originally arrested on investigation of assaulting his girlfriend in November. E-911 operators received a call around midnight where a woman whispered, "he's trying to get into the house, he's outside right now." The Grays Harbor County K-9, Aberdeen Police Department and several officers from the Hoquiam Police Department searched the area, but could not find anyone. The man was caught later as he came back and tried to get into the house at around 4am. This will be the man's third felony charge, and will stand trial for the first felony.
