On Wednesday, March 30 at about 2:24pm, Hoquiam Police Officers respondd to a report of a large turtle in the 400 block of Chenault Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and spotted the reported turtle attempting to flee the area. The turtle was apprehended after a brief but slow foot pursuit. "Despite his hard exterior he surrendered without a fight; handcuffs were not necessary," wrote Sergeant Shane Krohn. The police took the turtle to the Hoquiam Police Department animal shelter.
Further investigation of the turtle revealed that the turtle was fifteen years old, named George and that he hailed from Africa. The turtle weighed about 60 pounds, and is in fact a resident of Hoquiam.
