The turnout for the showing of the historic 1926 silent movie about Long-Bell was impressive. The Auditorium was "standing room only" with a head count of at least 170. The panel members were very helpful in narrating and explaining the various operations involved in transforming standing timber into kiln-dried lumber. The Cowlitz Co. Historical Museum was instrumental in making this event so successful. They furnished the digital projector and two of the panelists, Jim Tweedie and Jim LeMonds, are researchers for the Museum. DVD copies of the movie can be ordered by calling the Museum at (360) 577-3119.
The Ryderwood History Project is continually collecting information to add to its archives. This can be in the form of photos, written documents or oral history. There is contact information and a basic form on the ryderwood.org website.
The big event of the week will be the Castle Rock School Band and Choral Concert on Monday February 1st. It will be at 6:30 in the Auditorium. It is always a treat when the students come out for these events. They are so enthusiastic! I guess that's youth for you... Many of the band members also take part in the monthly visits (firstTuesday) to help with Nutrition Lunch. They think we're special, and the feeling is mutual!
This Thursday has the Red Hat ladies dressing up in the red and purple for a fun afternoon of fun, food and frivolity. I'm not sure what the destination will be for lunch, but they will leave from the Café at 11:30 a.m. This fun group of ladies invites others to join them.
Friday night's Dinner at the Café, brought to you by the Ryderwood Social Club, will be Linda's Meatloaf. Served at 5 p.m., the Dinners include beverage, salad, side dishes and dessert - a bargain for $10. Call Linda at 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations.
Card Bingo is on the calendar for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Café. The name of the game says it all: it's Bingo played with Cards. It requires zero skill and costs a maximum of $2.70 for an evening of fun with neighbors. The more folks that play, the more the winners can take home with them.
