Tales from the Lions Den…

By Dick Woods

Here’s a little history about the Paper Shack…In the late 1950s, Willapa Harbor Lions partnered with the Aberdeen Lions. Bundles of newspapers would be picked up all over town and hauled to Aberdeen, trucked to Seattle and shipped over Seas. The Club decided to store the papers here and used an old gas station near the entrance to the Barge Restaurant. This building burned and a Club member said he would build a building and Dennis Co allowed it to be on their concrete plant sight. After getting too crowded it was moved to the Port property at its present location now. This is the first time in over a decade that it has been painted.

We hope you can see us better now from the highway and be reminded to bring your old newspapers, magazines, and aluminum cans to the newly painted Lions Purple and Gold Paper Shack.

And just in case you considered asking, Purple and Gold are the colors of Lions Club International. We are always looking for new members. Join us at the Paper Shack on Monday mornings at 8:30 to sort papers and crush cans. Or join us any Wednesday morning at 7 for breakfast at the Barge restaurant for our weekly breakfast meeting.
