This newspaper appears to have jumped the gun when reporting on Friday's meeting of the Vader Planning Commission. Instead of holding a hearing related to a ban against recreational marijuana businesses, the commission met to discuss the adoption of rules outlining how the city will update their comprehensive plan, which will guide, among other things, a possible ban against recreational marijuana businesses. City Planner Rob White said the ban is among a number of priorities the commission is expected to address during their upcoming monthly meetings. For more information on the planning commission, contact City Hall at (360) 295-3222.
Cowlitz-Lewis Fire District 20 Chief Rich Underdhal has begun taking classes to be certified as an EMT in order to help bolster the EMS staffing levels in his agency. While District 20 officials would like to assure area residents their ambulance services are not in jeopardy, despite recent rhetoric regarding the staffing and budget levels of the district, additional volunteers are always needed, for both fire and EMS. Underdhal has undertaken this training on top of working full-time for Braun Northwest and part-time as Fire Chief, and the Vader community would like to encourage him and all of District 20 to keep up the hard and well-appreciated work.
